PT in the Morning

Ahhh so here we are again at the begenning of the week which after a weekend of running calls for a morning of Physical Therapy.

To get started they put me on the treadmill for 5 min to get warmed up.  After that was all the little weird balance tasks that it seems like everyone has to do.....in my opinion this is a time filler that they have us do while the P.T.'s go and look up what else they need to do to victim patient.  These thing include a lot of balanceing tasks.  Like a board with a wooden dowel in the center that you have to stand on and balance side-to-side then flip it 180 deg and balance front to back.  Or the thing that looks like a dish will 1/2 a ball glued to the bottom of it that you have to do front-to-back flexes, side-to-side flexes then make circles with it.  This one really hurt my foot for some reason.

So after all that I had to do the towel crunches with my toes and after that was the moving marbles with your toes.  Certainly not the most exciting tasks in the world.

So now i'm thinking that i get my ionic treatment NOPE today was going to be a little different in that we got to use the "TOOL" . Doesn't that sound enjoyable?  They took this little stainless steel thing and raked the back of my Achilles tendon with it, wow talk about some eye opening pain!

...and finally the ion treatment.
All in all pretty good day at the PT. I get to go back again Thursday before I will have to take a break.  Wish me luck!

Well I woke up this morning with an awful pain in the back of my heal and decided to go and visit my Physical Therapist.  After much discussion on what I thought caused this they decided to do a procedure named Iontophoresis.  This is a process where they use a negatively charged drug and hook up an adhesive pad to some electricity and force the medicine about 2mm under the skin.

Iontophoresis is an effective and painless method of delivering medication to a localized tissue area by applying electrical current to a solution of the medication. The diagram below illustrates the basic mechanism. Like electrical charges repel. Therefore, application of a positive current will drive positively charged drug molecules away from the electrode and into the tissues; similarly, a negative current will drive negatively charge ions into the tissues.

Anyhow, looks like the new shoes are causing me some grief.  Not sure if It was too much too soon in them or if it is the 4mm vs 8mm heal-to-toe drop that is effecting my Achilles tendon area.

More soon!

Well I have had a tough time this week getting the miles in.  After tonight run I finally rounded out 32 miles; not the 50 I wanted but a new week is upon us.

This week is the annual Relay for Life and if everything goes a planed a 50K should be in order.  I am planning on starting Friday at 5:30 and completing at 11:00 with another 30 mile run under my belt.  Since this is at night I figure this event will be good Boogie training run.

On an additional note...I really need to get back into the pool.  The Old School Aquathon Series starts this month on the 23rd and they always put the longest swim first.....UGH so much to do and so little time.  This thing called work keeps hindering my exercise!
